Megan Hess: The World of Barbie
In conversation with Rachel Burke
5–6pm, Thursday 8 October, Powerhouse Theatre
Ever since her 1959 debut at New York’s International Toy Fair, Barbie has effortlessly embodied the sartorial style of the moment: from swimsuits to spacesuits, she’s worn it all on point (and often in pink). Acclaimed fashion illustrator Megan Hess has immortalised the most memorable threads of the world's favourite doll in not one but two books, both published in collaboration with Mattel: Barbie: A Fashion Icon, an impeccably crafted compendium of fabulous fits, and The World of Barbie, a gorgeous keepsake for kids and collectors alike.
