Richard is the author of several prize-winning, best-selling books, including Ghost Empire, a history of the lost civilisation of Byzantium; and The Golden Maze: A Biography of Prague.
His most recent book is The Book of Roads & Kingdoms, a compendium of stories from travellers who travelled from medieval Baghdad to the furthest reaches of the known world.
