We are thrilled to announce Carl Lindgren has joined UPLIT as the Guest Artistic Director for the 2018 Brisbane Writers Festival.
Carl is a media publisher, magazine editor, and curator who is interested in ideas that change the world for the better. For more than 20 years he has supported and nurtured Brisbane’s growing creative, arts, design and cultural communities through his various roles.
Disillusioned with the mainstream media’s constant negative spin, Carl created map magazine in 1999 that fostered positive media, culture, ideas, diversity, and among others – encouraged people to chase their dreams. He was map magazine’s Managing Editor for 15 years and has interviewed and written articles on some of the world’s greatest thinkers, inspiring people, and change-makers.
Carl created the online lifestyle media site The Weekend Edition, Brisbane Magazine, as well as map creative – an ideas agency, where he was the Creative Director.
In his spare time and away from his businesses, Carl was the founding partner, curator and co-host of TEDxBrisbane from its inception in 2009.
“This year I’m looking forward to reading, listening, learning, laughing, crying, loving, sharing, being confronted, challenged, inspired, and uplifted” says Carl, a self-confessed optimist. “I treasure this wonderful gift my role allows me in presenting a festival of incredible writers and ideas.”
Carl’s tenure takes place while UPLIT’s current Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer Zoe Pollock is on maternity leave, until the end of 2018.
The 2018 Brisbane Writers Festival will take place from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 September, with the full program revealed and on-sale in early July. Subscribe to our eNews now to stay up-to-date with program announcements and other bookish news.
