#Welcome to Word Play
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the second Word Play program I have overseen as Artistic Director and CEO of the Brisbane Writers Festival. I’m honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to and support the incredible work our teachers do in bringing the magic of stories to life for young people. The Brisbane Writers Festival offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the worlds of literature, connecting with authors and taking a whole day to hear, share and learn about the art of making stories on a page.
We hope that this experience will be carried with each student as they go about their everyday lives – inspiring them to write, read and be curious about the world. Amongst the young people who attend today are the future leading authors from Queensland and I look forward to reading the stories they will tell.
Join me from 3 - 6 September at State Library of Queensland, the home of the Brisbane Writers Festival. This year I'm proud to present a stellar lineup of beloved local authors, international bestsellers and YA favourites. At Word Play 2019 students will be also able to experience the work of one of our most celebrated and important Indigenous writers: Alexis Wright. In Angel’s Palace – a 7.5m dome decorated with an artwork by Gordon Hookey. I urge you not to miss this extraordinary new way to experience literature.
I look forward to seeing you in September.
