When she was seven years old, Ariarne Titmus knew she was going to be an Olympic swimmer. When she was 14, her family left Tasmania for Queensland to give Ariarne the best chance to pursue her dream. When she was 18, Ariarne beat US powerhouse Katie Ledecky to become the 400-metre women’s freestyle World Champion. Over the next seven years, Ariarne’s strength, determination and commitment made her one of the greatest middle-distance swimmers of all time: she smashed records, won eight Olympic medals and became known as 'The Terminator'. But at 25, at the peak of her athletic power, Ariarne announced her retirement.
In Relentless, her deeply personal and powerfully honest memoir, she shares her incredible story for the first time, opening up about the medical issues that shaped her decision to change course and embrace life outside the pool. Don’t miss Ariarne in conversation with award-winning journalist, TV presenter and author Katrina Blowers for an insightful and inspiring discussion of sacrifice and success.

Ariarne Titmus
World record holder and 4-time Olympic gold medallist Ariarne Titmus is one of the greatest middle-distance swimmers of all time.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ariarne achieved a historic 3rd individual Olympic gold medal, winning the 400m freestyle, in what was dubbed 'the race of the century', where she defeated the other two previous world record holders of this event—American all-time great Katie Ledecky and Canadian swimming prodigy Summer McIntosh—to become the first Australian athlete since Dawn Fraser in 1964 to win back-to-back gold medals in the same event.
Known as 'the Terminator', Ariarne is renowned for her grit and determination. Throughout her career she overcame significant challenges, including recovering from a shoulder injury only months out from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and from surgery to remove a tumour on her ovary in 2023, a journey she shared publicly as one of the scariest times of her life.
Overcoming challenges and pressure to be the best when it counts on the big stage, time and time again, is what has placed Ariarne in a league of her own, making her an inspiration to many.
In October 2025, Ariarne announced her retirement from swimming to pursue other interests. She is an admired public speaker, a keen foodie and a sports fan, especially of AFL and tennis.
