Cheryl Leavy

Cheryl Leavy is a poet and children’s book author from the Kooma | Guwamu Nation. In 2022, she won the Oodgeroo Noonuccal Prize for Indigenous Poetry and, in 2026, the Peter Porter Poetry Prize. Cheryl is the only poet to hold both prizes. Forthcoming in 2027, her debut poetry collection, Mudhunda: The Song Country, fuses Kooma | Guwamu language and cosmology with an unflinching reckoning with colonialism, environmental devastation, and the fight for blak justice.
