Sydney may have the beaches and Melbourne may have the laneways, but when it comes to cloak-and-dagger intrigue, Brisbane leaves its rivals for dead. These writers reflect on the crepuscular side of the Sunshine State and the long legacy of corruption in Queensland.

Mirandi Riwoe
Mirandi Riwoe is the author of Sunbirds. Her novel, Stone Sky Gold Mountain, won the ARA Historical Novel Prize and the Queensland Literary Award and was shortlisted for the Stella Prize and longlisted for the Miles Franklin Award. Her novella The Fish Girl won Seizure’s Viva la Novella and was shortlisted for the Stella Prize. Her short fiction and novellas can be found in the collection The Burnished Sun. Mirandi has a PhD in Creative Writing and Literary Studies (QUT).
Joanna Jenkins
Joanna worked in Big Law including a decade as a partner in an international corporate law firm. She now writes full time. How to Kill a Client is her first novel.
Frank Chalmers
Writer across various genres and platforms incl. drama and doco, website and game design, film and television, and museum curation Lecturer in conceptual design, interactive writing, philosophy.
Judy Powell
Judy Powell is a Queensland-based author of historical crime fiction. She has worked as an archaeologist, National Parks officer, and teacher. She is the author of two novels, a literary biography, school texts and numerous academic works.
