Microfiction Competition
Calling all young writers! Brisbane Writers Festival and The University of Queensland present the annual schools’ microfiction competition, open to Queensland-based students. The 2024 prompt is... Transformation.
Entrants are invited to respond to the prompt in no more than 120 words, using any written format (verse/prose). Shortlisted entrants will be invited to present a reading of their microfiction at the awards ceremony at the Festival. The winner will receive a book pack for your school and a cash prize, $1,000 for the senior (secondary school) category and $500 for the junior (primary school) category.

#Judging Panel
The guest author judge for the 2024 Microfiction Competition is Sarah Armstrong! You can also catch her at the festival in the Word Play program.

The judging panel is coordinated by BWF Youth Programs Manager, Emily Bowman.
#Microfiction Readings & Awards Ceremony
2:30pm–3:30pm, Thursday 30 May, slq Auditorium 2
All are welcome for the awards ceremony, which features readings of shortlisted and winning entries and is presented by guest judge and middle grade author Sarah Armstrong.
