With My Body Keeps Your Secrets, Lucia Osborne-Crowley brought searing intelligence to bear on the subject of sexual trauma and its long-term consequences. In The Lasting Harm she foregrounds the testimony of the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, in a visceral work of court reportage that exposes the shortcomings of the justice system and the courage of four key witnesses.
In conversation with Jessica Rudd, Osborne-Crowley illuminates the human tragedy at the heart of this sensationalised trial, giving voice to the survivors and making an urgent case for criminal justice reform.

Lucia Osborne-Crowley
Lucia Osborne-Crowley is an Australian-trained lawyer, legal reporter, journalist, essayist and author of I Choose Elena (2020), the Somerset Maugham Award–winning My Body Keeps Your Secrets (2021) and The Lasting Harm (2024). Her news reporting has appeared in ABC News, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Wall Street Journal, GQ Australia, Saturday Paper and Women's Agenda. Her long-form writing has appeared in The Lifted Brow and Meanjin.
Lucia's forensic but accessible reporting of the Maxwell trial was described as some of the best and most trauma-informed coverage of the case, and it saw her social media following grow by over 35,000 followers. She has appeared as an expert journalist on the Maxwell and Prince Andrew cases on several news channels.
She is currently working for Law360 as a court reporter from London.
Jessica Rudd
Jessica Rudd is a Brisbane-based writer, lawyer and business leader.
She began her career in media and intellectual property law, politics and crisis communications in Australia, the UK and China before her first novel, Campaign Ruby, was published in 2010. Its sequel, Ruby Blues, followed in 2012. She has since written columns for newspapers and magazines and contributed to anthologies.
Having lived in Beijing for 5 years, in 2015 Jess started a Chinese online retail business, Jessica’s Suitcase, which she then sold to a publicly listed company in 2018.
In 2023, Jess worked as interim CEO for The Parenthood, an advocacy organisation pushing for better early childhood education and care and more paid parental leave. She has since been appointed as Chair of its board. She is also Co-Chair of the National Apology Foundation, Pro-Chancellor of Griffith University, and serves as independent non-executive director on the boards of the ASX-listed Australian Agricultural Company and the superannuation fund, Hostplus.
