10am–11am: Years 7–8
1pm–2pm: Years 9–12
Nova will talk about her path to publication through the land of television. She will discuss how she starts with characters, struggles with plotting and writes books that are very firmly set in contemporary Australia. She will demonstrate how starting with character can generate story and show character creation for her books.
In the 10am session for Years 7–8, the books Nova will discuss include Sick Bay and the Secrets trilogy. In the 1pm session for Years 9–12, the books she will discuss include Everything is Changed and Frankie and Joely.

Nova Weetman
Nova Weetman is a widely published writer of fiction, non-fiction and screenplays. She has published seventeen novels for children about friendship, class, identity and belonging, and her books have been shortlisted for many awards and published internationally. Her recent essays on aspects of grief and loss have been published in The Guardian and The Age, leading to her appearing on Radio National’s Conversations. Nova has also published short fiction in Island, Mslexia, Kill Your Darlings and Overland, and worked as a screenwriter for television and film.
