Knowing how to finish a story is one of the most difficult problems a writer of fiction must face. Amelia Mellor is here to guide aspiring writers in Years Seven and Eight through it. Say goodbye to 'it was all a dream', throw out 'then everyone died', and learn how your favourite authors keep you hooked until the last page in Solving the Plot Puzzle! Learn the difference between internal and external conflict; when a sad ending is the right choice; what stakes are; and some of the different methods for writing a satisfying resolution, such as The Face-off, The Mystery Revealed, The Grand Final (or Grand Fail!), and The Sacrifice.

Amelia Mellor
Amelia Mellor began her writing career as her secondary school's resident playwright in Year 11. As part of her creative writing course at the University of Melbourne, she completed a thesis on the reinvention of the Industrial Revolution in children's fantasy literature. Her debut novel, The Grandest Bookshop in the World, has won an Australian Book Industry Award, an Indie Book Award, a NSW Premier's Literary Award and a Booksellers' Choice Award. Her highly anticipated second novel, The Bookseller’s Apprentice, was published in 2022. When she isn't writing, Amelia enjoys hiking, gardening and drawing.
