#Lance Balchin, Samantha Wheeler visit Gladstone
Two of our most popular Brisbane Writers Festival 2016 artists Lance Balchin and Samantha Wheeler are heading to Gladstone next week, and you'll be able to follow along all their adventures here on our blog.
Lance and Samantha's tour will round out 'Read Around Gladstone', a three-year partnership project between UPLIT and Gladstone Regional Council designed to promote and encourage reading and writing for all ages in the Gladstone community.
The tour will include a special community event at the Gladstone Library where each author will discuss the creative process behind their writing and the unique role digital art plays in developing their characters and story worlds.
Lance and Samantha will also visit schools across the region, including Gladstone State High School, Central State School, South State School and schools in Miriam Vale, Mt Larcom and the Boyne Valley.
Lance was a hit at the Brisbane Writers Festival this year with his new book, Mechanica: A Beginner’s Field Guide that re-imagines a world filled with robotic animals. As one audience member exclaimed, “a time-lapse video capturing his creative process using Photoshop left his audiences in audible gasps”.
Samantha is a well-loved children’s author who ventures into the Australian bush to build stories about the native animals she encounters. Her stories are renowned for connecting children to our ecology. Her most recent book Mister Cassowary was shortlisted for the Wilderness Society’s Environmental Award.
