Tania Thomas
#About
Tania Thomas is a Kamilaroi woman, consultant and teacher with a focus on guiding educators with addressing the two distinct needs in Indigenous Education as outlined by the Australian Curriculum cross-curriculum priority. That:
1. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are able to see themselves, their identities and their cultures reflected in the curriculum of each of the learning areas, can fully participate in the curriculum and can build their self-esteem
2. the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority is designed for all students to engage in reconciliation, respect and recognition of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures.
(These priorities also align with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers – 1.4 & 2.4).
While passing on knowledge as a storyteller herself, Tania understands the importance of ensuring information shared aligns with curriculum. The experience she gained from working at the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (previously QSA) for a number of years has ensured she is very familiar with the Australian Curriculum.
