Join Darren Hayes – singer, songwriter, producer, performer and former frontman of the iconic pop duo Savage Garden as he returns to his hometown of Brisbane for a very special evening launching his candid, unfiltered memoir, Unlovable.
In conversation with Yumi Stynes, Darren will discuss the story of Unlovable, opening up the hidden battles that shaped his remarkable journey – from depression rooted in childhood trauma and violence, to navigating his sexuality in a world that was not always accepting.
For this monumental hometown launch of Unlovable, Darren will also perform a short intimate acoustic set of songs poignant to his story. Don't miss the chance to celebrate the launch of this remarkable story and special evening with Darren Hayes.
Please note there are a number of ticket options available. You can buy a ticket by itself or a ticket with an unsigned copy of Unlovable. Books will also be available to purchase on the night courtesy of Avid Reader, and there will be an opportunity for you to have your book signed by Darren.

Darren Hayes
As the lead singer and songwriter of Savage Garden and solo artist, Darren Hayes has sold over 30 million albums, achieved two US Billboard number one singles, won 14 ARIAs, 10 APRA songwriting awards and in 2019 received an award in the Order of Australia by the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for services to the music industry.
Darren has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House and Radio City Music Hall. He has duetted with Pavarotti, appeared at the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and twice headlined the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
He has studied improv at the renowned Los Angeles theatre The Groundlings, co-hosted numerous episodes of his film podcast ‘We Paid To See This’ and spent the past five years recording and releasing his most recent album, Homosexual.
Yumi Stynes
Yumi Stynes is an author and broadcaster working on Gadigal land. She got her start as an interviewer when working as a music reporter on the Foxtel station Channel [V] in the year 2000. She still talks music when taking a shift on national music broadcaster Double J.
Right now she can be heard on the hugely popular ABC podcast 'Ladies, We Need to Talk' - currently in its eighth season talking about taboos around women's issues.
Her groundbreaking books co-authored with Dr Melissa Kang include this year's ABIA Winner for Book of the Year for older Children, Welcome to Sex. The Welcome to series of guidebooks have sold over a quarter of a million copies and been translated into 14 languages.
When it all gets too stressful, Yumi has a food podcast called 'The 5 Minute Food Fix' where she laughs with dear friend and cookbook editor/publisher Simon Davis while giving recipes, hacks and tricks for busy people who love food.
