Ancient tales are given modern twists in the hands of these enchanting authors, who draw upon mythic pasts to break new ground in genre writing. Imagining the what-ifs of history, these books place us in conversation with the past.

Kathleen Jennings
Kathleen Jennings is a British Fantasy Award-winning author of Australian Gothic and folk- and fairy-tale-inspired fiction, and a World Fantasy Award-winning illustrator of fantasy and fairy tales, based in Brisbane. Her latest book is the Australian suburban-Gothic novel Honeyeater (2025). It follows her short story collection Kindling (2024), and 2020 Australian Gothic novella Flyaway and poetry collection Travelogues: Vignettes from Trains in Motion. She holds an MPhil and a PhD in creative writing from the University of Queensland.
