It went on to win Book of the Year at the NSW Premier's Awards, and to be set to music by 23 composers, but here's our chance to celebrate these inner-Brisbane poems where they began. Fellow poet Phil Brown joins Samuel Wagan Watson and a guest reader or two to share some Smoked Encrypted Whispers in the heart of West End.

Samuel Wagan Watson
Samuel Watson is a poet and raconteur based in Brisbane. He was honoured with the Patrick White Award in 2018. Samuel is proud to be a University of Queensland Press Writer.
Phil Brown
Phil Brown is editor of InReview, Qld, an independent arts outlet. He is the author of two books of poetry — Plastic Parables (Metro Community Press 1991) and An Accident in the Evening (Interactive Press 2001). His most recent book is The Kowloon Kid: A Hong Kong Childhood published by Transit Lounge in 2019. He has been covering the arts in Australia in the mainstream media for nearly four decades and was for some years Arts Editor for The Courier-Mail in Brisbane.
