Eileen Chong

Eileen Chong is a Sydney poet who was born in Singapore of Chinese descent. She is the author of seven books. Her latest poetry collection is Rainforest, from Pitt Street Poetry. Her books have shortlisted for numerous prizes, including the Anne Elder Award, the Victorian Premier's Literary Award, and twice for the Prime Minister's Literary Awards. Individual poems of Chong's have shortlisted for the Ron Pretty Prize, the Newcastle Poetry Prize, and twice for the Peter Porter Poetry Prize; they have longlisted three times for the University of Canberra’s Vice-Chancellor’s International Poetry Prize. A selection of Chong's poems, Another Language, was published in the Braziller Series of Australian Poets by George Braziller in New York, with a foreword from Paul Kane.

Her latest project is Map-Making, a limited edition hardback book of poems and photographs about Singapore, in collaboration with the photographer Charlene Winfred. Chong’s debut book, Burning Rice, is on the New South Wales’ Higher School Certificate syllabus for English from 2019.
