Colour your classroom with crafty new character-creating activities sure to delight students and offer a new appreciation of illustration with 2016/17 Australian Children’s Laureate, Leigh Hobbs.
An illustrator, painter, and sculptor, Leigh Hobbs has a unique and recognisable aesthetic that has inspired imaginations of all ages across Australia. His stories provide a creative context to teach young readers about the world beyond their backyard, and now teachers can learn just how easy it is to create unforgettable characters in the classroom.

Leigh Hobbs
Artist and author Leigh Hobbs is The Australian Children’s Laureate 2016 – 2017. He is best known for the twenty children’s books he has written and illustrated featuring his characters Old Tom, Horrible Harriet, Mr Chicken , Fiona the Pig, Mr Badger and the Freaks in 4F. Old Tom has been adapted into a popular French/Australian television series while Mr Chicken Goes to Paris was adapted for the stage by the National Institute of Dramatic Art, and Horrible Harriet premiered at the Sydney Opera House, co-presented by CDP Theatre Producers, early in 2017 and is now touring Australia.
His latest book Mr Chicken Arriva a Roma, follows Mr Chicken on an adventure through a city of ancient wonders and delicious things to eat.
