Brisbane Writers Festival will not proceed as planned in September 2020 and will instead be rescheduled during the first half of 2021.
If we were writing this saga, our villain would be the menacing and unpredictable COVID-19 pandemic, scaring innocent people and thwarting plans with its insidious and deadly agenda. Our heroes would be the Australian artists and authors who refuse to be felled by its nefarious plot and are standing strong as they continue to create new work and collaborate with us to reimagine a bright new Festival.
Good heroes need great sidekicks and there are none greater than the dedicated patrons and partners who have supported Brisbane Writers Festival for the past 58 years and who will continue to do so long after we have defeated COVID-19.
While we love a thrilling tale of suspense as much as anyone, we promise not to leave you with a cliff-hanger ending for long. The Brisbane Writers Festival team is currently crafting innovative ways to hero our authors, champion our artists and engage our audiences online while we ride out COVID-19’s reign of terror. We are also busy planning the rescheduled Festival and exploring new programs, creative opportunities and delivery platforms.
Our big reveal will take place in early 2021 when we announce the new dates for Brisbane Writers Festival, Word Play and Love YA as well as our triumphant and inspiring program.
