Joyce Morgan

Joyce Morgan is an author and journalist. She is a former Arts Editor of The Sydney Morning Herald and has worked in London, Hong Kong and Sydney.  As a senior arts writer for more than 30 years, she has interviewed many leading cultural figures including Cate Blanchett, Annie Leibovitz, Tom Stoppard, Clive James, Patti Smith and the Dalai Lama.

Her biography Martin Sharp: His Life and Times (Allen & Unwin) was longlisted for this year’s Stella Prize. She is co-author of Journeys on the Silk Road, (Picador Australia, 2011), about the discovery of the world’s oldest printed book.

Joyce grew up in Liverpool, England, at the height of Beatlemania, before emigrating to Newcastle, NSW, with her family of 10-pound Poms.  Her writing has appeared in The Saturday Paper, The Australian and The Guardian. She is currently a theatre reviewer for the SMH. Her journalism has taken her on assignments to Pakistan and East Timor, and she has worked as an ABC Radio producer.

A keen traveller, when not at her computer Joyce might be found in the Himalayas. She lives in Sydney with her journalist husband and their Border Collie.
