Eirian Chapman - Artist statement

When Chris Flynn (my partner) read me his piece for this year’s Festival, Room to Dream, we initially discussed illustrating Barbra Streisand and her cloned pet dogs, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett. After some initial sketches exploring a petri dish full of cute dogs, I set that idea aside and instead explored the theme of cloning mammoth back to life. I ended up using the image of Streisand clutching her dogs and subverting it by portraying an overtly rich woman (Botox and bling) cuddling with her cloned mammoth fur babies.
