Cross-Arts Program
Visual Arts
Beginning in our sixtieth year, we are celebrating the rich tapestry of storytelling and ideas woven through diverse art forms in our Cross-Arts Program. BWF 2022 brings you a special focus on visual arts, with a thoughtful range of panels, exhibits and events designed to paint a picture of the always wonderful and often weird ways books, writing and ideas connect with visual art.
Where does the aesthetic of Bribie Island meet Beijing?
How do publishers catch a reader's eye with book cover design?
Can you use a book NFT to trade connectivity and intimacy?
Our inaugural Cross-Arts Program brings you partnerships with galleries, museums, artists, and designers leading the way with thought-provoking works both experimental and historical.
Tour our stunning exhibitions of award-winning and boundary-breaking book artistry and design, with guest partner curators including Noreen Grahame, Simon Groth and the Australian Book Design Awards.
Join fascinating panel discussions, book launches, and performances interrogating the intersection between literature, aesthetics, and justice, featuring authors and artists including Louise Martin-Chew celebrating the artist activism of Fiona Foley; Fairweather expert Claire Roberts; digital feminist Thao Fan; and the Museum Incognita's Fayen d'Evie.
In addition, BWF 2022 proudly partners with Griffith University to present a Zine Market featuring gorgeous works by zine artists big and small – free to attend.
And in a very special Brisbane debut, Tender explores publishing as a daring act of relation through 3D knit technology and the borderless terrain of the blockchain.
