Dr Fiona Foley is a founding member of Boomalli Aboriginal Artist Co-operative. Over the past thirty-five years, she has exhibited regularly in Australia and internationally. Her recent solo exhibitions were held at Andrew Baker Art Dealer, Brisbane in 2017, the Ballarat International Foto Biennale in 2019 and National Art School, Sydney 2020.  

In 2020, Foley was awarded the inaugural Monica Clare Research Fellowship from the State Library of Queensland and appointed Lecturer at the Queensland College of Arts, Griffith University, where she had completed her PhD in 2017. Foley’s thesis examined Queensland's legislation, The Aboriginals Protection and Restriction of the Sale of Opium Act 1897. Her new work on this subject was received with significant interest, and in 2020, Foley published Biting the Clouds, based on her research into the Act.  

In 2014 she was the recipient of an Australia Council Visual Arts Award. She is a regular keynote speaker at conferences and symposia all over the world. In 2014 she convened Courting Blakness: Recalibrating Knowledge in the Sandstone University at the University of Queensland, where she was an Adjunct Professor (2011-2017).

Louise Martin-Chew is a freelance writer, specialising in the visual arts and design. Since 1992 she has contributed regularly to national art magazines, newspapers and catalogues, and contributed to and authored books on Australian artists Judy Watson, Fiona Foley, Stephen Hart, Robert Brownhall and Linde Ivimey. She holds a doctorate from the University of Queensland (2019). Fiona Foley Provocateur: An Art Life (published QUT Art Museum, 2021) is her first biography.
